April Fools. We are still here!!
We left our comfortable campsite at Kershaw-Ryan State Park and headed out to Echo Canyon State Park --yes we decided to brave the cold temps and make this our home base for the next 2 days. This park is located on the banks of a reservoir. For those of us who are used to reservoirs the size of Stampede, Boca or even Prosser, this place is more like a pond. But the lack of population makes it wonderful. We backed our trailer into a campsite. We are the only rig in this place. Kinda nice, no leash on Ceilidh. She loves it too.
After parking our home, we took a drive down to the next State Park: Spring Valley State Park. This area was settled by the Mormons in 1865. I can see why Brigham Young decided that they should put down roots here. Some really fertile farmlands in the midst of all of this geologic jumble.
At one point we found a little sign that said "Echo Point". We stopped, figuring that it was the namesake for this place that because of the acoustics. Sure enough, our dog Ceilidh had a heyday trying to figure out what dog was barking back at her.
Back to Camp for dinner. Just as we were settling in for the night a new camper showed up with a "Lazy Daze" RV. He immediately started up his generator -- guess our peace and quiet is over.
We are so lucky to have solar panels that charge our batteries very effectively (even when there is not too much sun) and a propane heater that pretty much does the trick. In the end if you can afford the investment there is no other way. The sound of that generator and the gas being consumed by it really is enough to turn us off of camping. The guy needed it though, and he did have it disconnected by 9:30pm.
