Day 11, June 29, 2017 Cold and Wet in Buffalo
Took an early morning hike to Tie Hack Reservoir with Russ
and Ceilidh – did I mention that our dog loves it when both Mom and Dad go with
her! She chased quite a few chipmunks
and even one deer, got drinks out of the creek and just generally enjoyed
herself. The hike was beautiful as you
can see in the photos I took.
The plan was to visit more of the great outdoors but alas,
mother nature would not cooperate. It
rained pretty much all day. We went to
town and had lunch at the Occidental Saloon (associated with the Hotel and The
Virginian Restaurant). Established in
1880, this place has seen many a cowboy and western historical figure including
Theodore Rooselvelt , before he was president.
After enjoying a relaxing lunch including having Russ drench me with an
entire glass of coke, we explored the hotel a bit. Since it was raining and we could see that
only an indoor activity would do, we settled on checking out the Jim Gatchell
Memorial Museum in Buffalo. For the
price of $7 we were treated to a couple of hours of local history dating all
the way back to dinosaur times.
Apparently Mr. Gatchell owned a pharmacy in town and as a
second interest, he collected artifacts.
When he died, he willed all the
artifacts to the town with the provision that they be housed in a museum. They did it and it was well worth the money
and time spent.
Rain forced us to return to our water tight travel trailer
early to await cocktail time . . . .
Onto Cody tomorrow morning – back to civilization. Pooh
PS, Since I wrote this, we discovered a slow leak in one of the tires on our truck this evening so we had to venture down to Buffalo to get air and figure out how to get the tire fixed. I hope that Russ will be able to fill you in on the incredible story of the "tire change." AAA reacts a lot differently out here in the Wyoming area. Suffice it to say, it was a fun and a "slice of life."
