Days 7-9, June 25, 26 and 27, 2017 Sorry, I was having FUN with Family!
Sunday, June 25th dawned the perfect day for a wedding. Blue skies with puffy, white and non-threatening clouds. Fortunately, we had perfect candidates Andy Freund and Emily Euclid for the job!! The wedding was held at the Breckenridge Nordic Ski Center. I met the owner/builder, Greg Dayton who was wearing his lederhosen and acting every bit the host. Mr. Dayton's son is a retired nordic olympian! As you can see from the pictures the venue was perfect!
The welcome to the wedding and champagne reception was scored with music from an exceptional, kinda blue grass, country group called "The Pine Beatles." Russ said that Jeff Jackson would have been right at home with these fellows. Following champagne, we were seated for dinner inside the lodge. The party went on until about 9:00 with an awesome DJ who got ALL of us up and dancing.
Russ and I had to leave early because our dog Ceilidh was at home. Glad I did, no hangover on:
Monday, June 26th, some of us went for a hike along the shores of Dillon lake where we were camping. We spent the rest of the day with family, just recalling stories and reminiscing. In the end we had pizza in Breckenridge where most of the family was staying. It was hard to say goodbye but knowing that we will see them all in a little over a month in Michigan makes it bearable!
Tuesday, June 27th, I woke up feeling funky and maybe it was the 3rd day I used the breakfast granola I purchased in Frisco but I tend to think that my body had just had enough of 10,000 feet. Pretty sure I could never live that high. In any event we (Russ, Ceilidh and I) broke camp at USFS Peak One campground in Frisco, CO and headed to Cheyenne, Wy where we will camp at Warren AFB so we can empty our tanks, do our laundry and charge up our devices. Since Russ is retired Army we can avail ourselves of this wonderful service for $20 a night -- not bad.
On our way, we drove through the Rocky Mountain National Park -- WOW is just all I can say. Somebody (was it President Teddy Roosevelt? no it was Woodrow Wilson in 1915 and it became the 10th National Park which really doesn't take anything away from Mr. Roosevelt who started the National Park System), really had his stuff together. What a breath taking ride that was (kind of death defying for a flatlander too). Seriously, I can't imagine what that road might have cost by today's dollars to construct.
Anyways, we made it to the AFB and tomorrow we will head up to more mountain freedom in the Bighorn mountains. Hoping to find a nice little USFS Campground to spend 2 days just relaxing. May be a bit before we have a connection, just sayin.
The first 3 pics were taken from the car window in the Rocky Mtn Park since there was no where we could pull our rig off the road. The last picture is from the back of the laundromat at Warren AFB -- too hot to sit inside while the clothes spin.
