Days 3-5, June 21-23 -Sorry, we had no SERVICE
Okay, when last I wrote, I had a connection and I was at Park City, UT. Leaving around 10 am from our fancy trailer park where we had a pool and showers -- Park City RV Resort ($44), we wended our way across the rest of Utah and into Colorado. Our destination was Meadow Campground, a primitive USFS site just southeast of Steamboat Springs. We got to that campground but to our chagrin we were informed by the closed gate that the park was closed. 😡
We contacted the forest service in Steamboat Springs and the fellow there -- Branden -- suggested that we try Hahn Peak Lake because it had just opened up that day (June 21). We hastened to that place which was 45 miles away hoping against hope that there would be an open site because we were loosing the light. Alas, we got lucky!! What an awesome spot this was. Located in the Routt National Forest of Colorado.
We spent 2 nights in this campground and never went too far from our campsite. The total cost for 2 nights of dry camping was $10 (we have senior passes). We were parked right next to a vault toilet which allowed us to save our black water tank, only using the toilet in the trailer for night time visits.
On the 22nd, Kappy and Ceilidh took a 2 mile hike along the shore of Hahn Peak Lake. We saw a few people fishing. Looking at the campground it appeared as if they were expecting a pretty big weekend but there were few campers there during our stay.
On the way out, we stopped at the USFS station and thanked Brandan for his tip. What a wonderful place!!
June 23rd finds us in Frisco at the USFS Peak Campground which we reserved quite some time ago. Since it is the weekend, this place which consists of about 80 campsites (dry camping) is full. What a difference from our last campsite. So nice to be able to travel during the week. I will have more pictures tomorrow but here are the ones from Steamboat Springs.
