Rain in the Desert! March 12, 2019
Life can't always be exciting, right? Today was a long one. Last night's rain continued for the first part of the day so we were cooped up inside this little 175 square foot trailer. (btw, within that square footage there is a couch, bed, table, counters and appliances -- just so you know there is not a lot of moving around space). Just to get out of here we made a trip at noon down to the thriving town of Quartzite, AZ. This adjective (thriving) can in no way describe the current state of affairs in this town right now. We had a hard time finding a restaurant that was open. Some of them were even for sale.
I know that in early February the place is packed with hundreds, no, maybe thousands of middle aged retirees who flock here in their trailers and motor homes so that they can dry camp on the desert for free while they engage in their favorite pastime: buying junk! Yes, it is true, I believe that this place houses the world's biggest "swap meet." I guess you might describe it as an "elderly burning man" convention.
I digress. We did find an open restaurant which happened to be attached to a laundromat -- making it the busiest place in town. Is Tuesday laundry day? The cast of characters in this town is something to behold. Talk about middle America and not giving a flying you know what about how you look. Well, I couldn't take pictures since that would have been invasive but I think that whatever you picture is probably only half as bizarre as it truly is.
We picked up a couple of things and headed back to the homestead. Found one of these at the dollar store and was able to make it go around 3 times before I quit for the day:
Upon arrival at the trailer, the skies had pretty much cleared and the rain had soaked into the ground so I took Ceilidh and went for a little run. Here is my run for the day:
Our sunset and alpenglow from our campsite.

And my reward for the run
