Our Shopping excursion. Friday, March 16, 2018
Friday, March 16th
No wind this morning and also no sun. Oh well, you gotta pick your battles. After sweeping out the trailers Pat and I
headed to the market to see what we could buy.
There definetly was enough food at that store to feed a family, although
the lack of main courses were obvious. I
didn’t see any beef, fish or chicken but something called “Fud” which I suspect
is somewhat like fresh Spam. There were
a few vegetables and even some pears (hard as rocks) tangerines and oranges,
lettuce and some bruised and battered tomatoes.
There was, however, an extensive complement of alcohol. Hard liquor, beer, wine and something I haven’t
seen before – mixed drinks. Skyy vodka
with all sorts of fruity mixes, all available in an 8 oz bottle.
Pat and I spent an hour perusing the merchandise and came
out of the place spending less than 200 pesos between us. Neither of us got sucked in by the beautiful
display of alcohol.
By the way, I asked another American looking local where
they dumped (their bathroom stuff is what I made clear) and he said: “we just take it out into the desert
somewhere and unload it. It all just
dries up in a bit.” Got it, guess it
makes sense. What’s the difference I
guess, dumping it down a hole that just basically filters out into the septic
field or just putting it out in the air above some sand to “dry up.” Something
to think about.
Back home for a beer – the good kind – Deschutes Fresh
Squeezed IPA, brought from home – a sandwich and a nap.
A walk on the beach, in the wind. Yes, it came back. Oh well, with any luck at all it will be gone
by 7 pm when Steve is having barbeque chicken ready. And sure enough, it was!! The weather here is fickle. We keep wondering what it is like in San
Felipe, only 3 hours north of here. The
trade off, of course, is the solitude.
There are only 2 of us rigs and the family that are running the camp –
Veronica, Hugo and two little girls and about the same number of dogs
(including our 3).
The dogs here are all super nice and non threatening. There is one that is a puppy. Another reminder of why we get dogs – puppies
are so cute! I will try to get a picture of him. Our dogs are trying to teach him some dog
skills. Tulla and Shelby are teaching
him how to play. Ceilidh, being the
neurotic high strung heeler she is, is teaching the puppy some respect. What a school.
We had a wonderful dinner at Steve and Pat’s casa. Barbeque chicken, panko encrusted white fish
(in deference to Friday in lent) and even a bit of pork tenderloin). Good friends, good drinks and a nice evening. Hopefully the wind will be light tomorrow so
I can go for a run.
Nitey Nite.
