After a laid back day, Russ and Ceilidh went for a hike with me!! Day 66, August 26, 2017
Took my time getting out of bed this morning. Spent a bit of it with the book I am
reading: The Road to Jonestown. Boy, Jim Jones was really
influential in California, wasn’t he?
Who knew he was friends with Angela Davis, George Moscone and Willie
Brown? Mr. Wacko. Can you believe all of his parishioners
thought he was god? I guess he used
props like chicken guts to perform miracles by
removing “cancerous tumors.” Some of the stuff he did, I must say, took a
lot of imagination – on both his part and his believers. I guess it is easy to see how evil and
misguided he was in retrospect. I just
don’t think I ever would have followed that man --- but you never know.
Anyways, today was a quiet, nap, hike and almost swim
day. I wanted to take a dip in Park
Lake. I even went so far as to put my
swim suit and water shoes on but when I got there, the wind was so cool and the
water not so warm that I changed my mind.
So instead, Russ, Ceilidh and I went on a 3 mile hike. I forgot to take my phone, so no pictures. We met a couple on the way back on the same trail and when I asked what was at the end of the trail, they said it opened up onto a beautiful meadow with lots of colors. Well, we got there and the colors were green, green and a little yellow. Those folks obviously have never seen Paige Meadows at Lake Tahoe. I guess I am spoiled.
Here's another pictures of Park Lake -- a hidden gem -- 14 miles of bad road off the beaten path.
Smoky Sunset
Russ cooked dinner tonight, as he always does. It was good.
I did dishes afterwards, as I always do.
While I was doing dishes, I thought once again of Jim Ungar because he
gave us the set of pans we have in the trailer.
Jim is not with us anymore but I thought what a great thing it is to
have those pans so I think of him every time we are camping, a time that is
always wonderful and fun. What a great,
positive aura you have about you Dr. Ungar.
We miss you.
As an aside, I also think of my daughter Montana who is
still very much alive, every time I wash and dry that beautiful frying pan you
gave your Dad this past Christmas. He
uses it practically every time he cooks dinner.
Tomorrow we push on to the other side of the continental
divide. See how far we get and how much
cell service we have.
