Day 67. 4 more sleeps and home!! August 27, 2017
Yep, that's right and I am looking forward to my house and comfortable bed and green backyard.
What a journey it has been. We are now in North Fork on the Salmon River and the temperature is 93 degrees. My skin is crawling off of me. My nose is bleeding from the dryness and my eyes are stinging from the smoke which has been with us for the past 3 days. I fear that it will continue as we travel towards Reno. When I think of the differences in weather across the country it astounds me.
I cannot leave today without mentioning how devastated I am about what is happening in Texas. Hurricane Harvey has been a force to be reckoned with. I am so saddened by the trials my fellow countrymen and their pets are having to go through. I don't know what I would do under the circumstances except, like them, survive. If there is one place in this country that can weather this storm it is Texas. Look out Harvey because as the saying goes: "Don't Mess With Texas. " Prayers for all of you in harms way.
This morning I managed to get 3 miles in, smoke or not. Here is a selfie of myself and my running partner this morning (she is kinda shy).

After a healthy breakfast of oatmeal, we packed up and left our campsite. Plans were kind of loose but we hoped to camp at another USFS campground up high so that we didn't need A/C. As we approached Chief Joseph Pass, we scouted one out that would have cost us $3.50/day but alas, we chose to press on, thinking something better would come up. Well it did, but it is a Good Sam park and cost us $31 per night. It is, however, right on the Salmon River and as soon as it cools down enough to go outside, we will enjoy it.
As you can see, it is a pretty nice spot.
Tomorrow we head back into the mountains trying to find some respite from the heat. So, if you don't hear from me for a couple of days, remember: Be nice to each other!!
