How perfect can all of this get? Picnic Day! Day 45, August 5, 2017
Yes, we got a sunny day on our family picnic day but it was windy -- like I said, you can never plan for the un-plannable weather here in Michigan.
We headed out to St. Clair Metro Park for our reserved shelter and Russ cooked hamburgers and hot dogs for about 40 of our closest relatives. Julie Seymour and family joined us as well as Pat Seymour who is Billy's widow, since re-married. It was great to reconnect with them. Look the same, you know how it is, our contemporaries NEVER age. Just like us!!
The swimming was a no no since the beach was closed thanks to too high levels of e-coli in the water (must be located too close to the sewage plant and there has been so much rain here). No problem though because it really was too cold for swimming to be an attractive idea. The young adults played with the bocce balls and the ladder game while the kids amused themselves as they always do, much better in the great outdoors, digging holes in the horseshoe pits and running circles around the rest of us. Everyone brought some food to share.
4 hours went quickly for there was so much to catch up on but we wanted to make sure that all who wanted to could attend Mass at St. Paul's on the Lake. I am sure my Dad was proud to have the first four rows full of his family. Even the kids were little saints. Then we went back to Dad's house and gobbled down 8-10 pizzas and a couple of cases of beer.
All in all, a good day and the weather cooperated!! Thank you God! Here's a couple of pics!
