We are the Drought Busters! Day 42, August 2, 2017 -
As I write this, the big storm has passed on. There is still lightening in the distance and the dog is still under the bed.
The day dawned beautiful enough to get 3 miles in at the RV park. That place is huge. Since we will be in the State Park for the next 5 days and not knowing the amenities there, we hit the showers then proceeded to head over the Grosse Pointe to visit with my Dad (97) who is the reason we are having this reunion. He had been to the doctor this morning and it looks like he will have to have another procedure on his leg. We spent a couple of hours visiting and Dad and Sue remarked how little rain they have had lately, looking as concerned as a Californian up until 2017.
Well, true to form, we obliged them. We arrived at Algonac State park. Found our space and set up camp just in time to experience another beautiful rain storm. Dry inside, we are enjoying the remnants of thunder and lightening.
This park is situated just across the road from the St. Clair River. It is such a pleasure and privilege to be here. Many summers of my youth were spent in this area. My family used to spend summers at the Saint Clair River at Algonac. This place made so many memories with all of my siblings, cousins and aunts and uncles. Tomorrow we will drive by the old homestead and see if it is still sitting there. One of the memories I have that is most strong is of a white stone column at the entrance to the cottage where we stayed. We used to fight to be the individual who would perch on top of this column and be the first one to see Dad on a Friday night as he motored up from Detroit to share the weekend with us.
We have TV here. Interestingly, it is all Canadian. Seems as if they suffer the same news we do. The weather report was really interesting when watching a Toronto station -- even though we are so close to Michigan, the weather map shows only the Canadian side (which, or course, is very unfamiliar to me). Not making any objections, objections or presumptions, it is just good to see how other people in other countries look at themselves and us in the world scene. It is humbling. We have to realize that we are not the only country in the world.
I have been following Montana and her family across the US. They left this morning at 5:30am and did, arrive this afternoon in Grand Rapids, MI. I know it is uncomfortable for my daughter Montana to fly so I am so glad she has arrived safely. Here's what Cohen got into during the 3 hours they were laid over.
Should be a quiet night.

See what I mean? Where is this?
