2 for the price of one!!Day 58 and into Day 59, August 18-19, 2017

We are camped at a county park near Wausau, WI for 2 days.  We will visit our friends Emily and Mark Stuckenbruck (now there's a name-not sure I spelled it right though).  The name of the park is Big Eau Pleine and is located along a beautiful reservoir.  The campground has electricity and a dump station, that's all we need.  The price, a mere $20 (including tax) per night.  Found this place again on the Alstays App.

As an aside and while I am thinking about it, amazingly, even though every place we have been to in
the past week is so shaded and the weather has been so overcast and gloomy (putting it mildly), our solar panel has done its job in keeping our batteries charged so we have light.  Of course we have been frugal when it comes to lights, using only the LED lights in the trailer.

Last night (Friday) we had dinner with Mark at a place called The Great Dane.  Once again, Russ and I realized after we got our food that we should have just split a dinner.  The Walleye  was wonderful and so unlike the freshwater fish we have in the west.  The brew -- their own "Imperial IPA" was also perfect.

This morning (Saturday) I took a run along the really nice and wide paths that the ranger (who is from Ohio) told me about.  He was right, they are so much softer on my knees than the normal asphalt I have been running on this entire trip.  I ran into a couple of horses and their riders also enjoying an early morning excursion.  I will post a picture here of the trail and the lake at the end of it as soon as I have better cell service (yes, that again).

Thinking today about the fact that we are nearing the end of our trip.  I have been anticipating this adventure for so long it gives me an empty space in my soul to realize that it is almost over.  I don't know why this makes me sad because as Russ reminded me, I have lots to look forward to:   My daughter just asked us if we would be able to pick up Cohen a couple of days a week so that she could go to the gym;  I have a part-time job in Reno delivering peoples' paychecks (if you think they aren't glad to see me :-) ); still selling real estate in Truckee Tahoe; going to MX in September to celebrate my girlfriend's 60th; going to Disneyland in December; and much more that we have not yet planned, I am sure.

I know I should be happy to have been able to make this journey and believe me I am.  I just don't want it to end.  2.5 months on the road in this beautiful country does not even begin to give us the time to scratch the surface of what it is.  Next time I hope we can choose a smaller route and spend more time.  Time, that is always the problem.

As the day wore on I decided that we must go see at least one thing in Wausau.  So we looked up "things to do in Wausau" and came up with the number one item:  "Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum. "  It was just the right size.  Had lots of bronze sculptures and art centered around birds.  We killed a couple of hours inside before going off to Mark and Emily's home for dinner.  Here's a couple of pictures of the museum stuff:

Look closely at this goose, if you have ever encountered one up close, you can see that the artist has captured its personality perfectly

These are 2 birds made entirely of sticks (and plastic bags make up the feathers).  It is an in place piece of art -- cannot be moved without destroying it.  Super interesting.

More birds

Got to Emily and Mark's place around 3:30pm just a few minutes after Emily had arrived from an overnight trip to Superior where she had to interview and indoctrinate a new professor.  She and Mark gave us a tour around their property which is located right on the Wisconsin River.

Who's photobombing?

Riverfront property -- not bad!

As you can see, a good time was had by all.
