An Incredibly Full Day . Day 56, August 16, 2017
Wow. Got in a 3 mile run (and it was dark and cold out there). Saw no wildlife except some fungi on the tree -- and boy can they grow fungi up here in the UP. After a quick bite of a pastie that Russ saved me I got a shower and we loaded up the car with dirty laundry.
The laundromat was uneventful but I did notice that the folks that were there were a weathered and hearty sort. Probably still don't believe that smoking is bad for your health. You know that is something that Russ and I discussed. We have noticed that the natives to the UP seem to be proud to NOT conform. Perhaps they think that the lower peninsula inhabitants are not as hardy as they. Could be and I kinda have to agree with them. Who could EVER imagine living up here in the winter -- maybe us crazies that lived in Truckee, CA.
In any event, we got the laundry job done and are only missing one hand towel. Oh, well. I wanted to get some new ones anyways.
Back to the trailer and Russ got a nap while Ceilidh and I went on a "brisk" 2 mile hike. It's amazing how much I can psych myself out while I am hiking by myself. I could get lost, I could sprain my ankle, I could loose the dog, I could get attacked by a bear, a cheetah, a fox, I could loose cell service! So I force myself to scurry along. Just had a shower this morning and now I am working up a sweat. Oh well, c'est la vie.
This evening we went on our cruise to see the Pictured Rocks and they were everything that was promised. Incredible colors streaming out of the the sandstone rock cliffs. These pictures don't do it justice but, I tried. If you check out this link, maybe you will get more of an idea.

Some weird mushroom -- bet it is poisonous, huh?
Forest Fungi
Ferns everywhere
Tired puppy

Not sure if you can see the beautiful green of copper here
Unbelievable colors
If you saw this you would think it looks like a painting of a village (nope, not smoking anything)
If you look closely (I know it is difficult) you will see that this rock pedestal has a tree on it. The tree's roots extend back to the land behind the pedestal. Amazing.
Tomorrow we actually press on and begin our journey home. We are turning the corner.
Nitey Nite.
