Got enough juice 2 days later!!! July 8, 2017. Day 48
Well, wouldn’t you know it – no cell service and lousy wifi
at this park so I will just have to catch you guys up next time I have
coverage.
Today up early and took a run down to Lake Huron and the
beautiful East Tawas Lighthouse. On my
way I saw a cottontail bunny and a doe and fawn, all of whom trotted off in
fear of me. Yes, little me. I was running so fast that they thought I
would catch them (that’s a joke). Seriously
though, what a great reason to be the first one out on the trail. It is not often that I see anything more than
a bunch of ducks and geese on Virginia Lake.
Sorry I didn’t get any pictures, I was busy moving and didn’t want to
stop. I got a couple pics of the
lighthouse after I stopped and I will add them to the blog as soon as I have
enough umph (cyberwise) to get them on here.
We headed up north to Alpena, leaving mid-Michigan behind
for good. Alpena is located on the
shores of Lake Huron and could be described as the low-key lakeside of the
state. Here the beaches are beautiful
and plentiful and you don’t have to pay to get to them.
We tried to stay at the Military campground in Alpena but
the campground was closed because there was some operation going on. Russ says that the operation was probably a
readiness exercise and the base was sensitive to the security needed. In view of what happened today with the North
Korean threat, I guess their exercise is more important than our camping.
We had a backup plan, so we ended up at this little private
campground with a real family feel located along Long Rapids Road on the
Thunder Bay River called "Camper's Cove." Thanks to Passport
American, two nights will cost us $32.
Normally it would have been $32 per night. Another case where this membership has saved
us MORE than what it cost. I can’t even
remember what it cost but it has been repaid many times over. Anyways, we did get into town (Alpena) for
supplies and a Frisbee run. Tomorrow
more relaxing and maybe a bike ride.
Early morning, empty beach at Tawas State Park
This little guy would sit still for my camera!
Happy Feed house on the Beach
