Gargoyles and Old Buildings Day 28, July 17, 2017

Got a 3 mile run this morning in 72 degree heat which actually translates to 92 with the humidity here.  Kind of like a "wind chill" factor?  I'm making that up.  Just kidding but it was HOT!  While I was out, Russ and Ceilidh had breakfast and a bit of frisbee!!

We stuck around the campground in Mitchell, SD -- The R & R Campground -- 2 nights for a total of $48 (one of the nights was a Passport America rate, the other Good Sam - got to work all of the angles), because our trip to Pipestone, MN was only 2 hours.

Arrived at this campground, the Pipestone RV Campground, at 2:00 pm.  The price for this place, since it is only one night, was $17.19 (Passport America) although they needed to have it in cash.  No problem!!  This place I have to say is the nicest place we have been in yet.  It was so hot and they have a pool!!  So I got my suit on and went swimming!

I met a couple with their kids in the pool who live about one hour from here.  They use this place as a summer home.  They leave their trailer here all summer and just drive up on weekends.  I am sure they get a good deal on the rent.  They told me about a place to go have pizza so that's what Russ and I did for dinner.  After dinner we kind of poked around downtown and here are some photos I took there.

Hope you can see the detail that these gargoyles have (zoom in) they were individually carved, right here locally in Pipestone

Calumet Hotel -- 1887 - just WOW

Calumet Hotel from the Street - 1887

$8,000 Built this Beautiful Building in 1888

We heard this commotion down the street and around the block and saw the fire hose blowing water from the top of the ladder car.  Russ said they are practicing but if you look closely maybe you can see that there are kids having a wonderful time in 90 degree weather enjoying the firemens' practice shower!

Tomorrow our destination is Minneapolis -- a 4 hour drive. But first we need to see the Pipestone National Monument which is just across the street from this RV park.  Keep you posted.

Nitey Nite!
