Look Russ, there is a sun in the Midwest!! Day 37, July 27, 2017
Finally, we got some sun.
The rest of the day be damned.
Not much happened. We put on
another 150 miles towards our next destination – the Great Lakes Naval Air
Station.
A couple of events happened today that are noteworthy
though. We stopped in a small town (2
restaurants) for lunch and when I was finished I went in search of a bank so
that I might get some money and some change for the laundry. Walked in the front door of the bank that
advertised “Atm” and asked the manager where it was. She said it was around the back near the
driveup teller. I said I wanted to get a
roll of quarters. She said that the
drive up teller could help me with that.
I walked around back, took $$ out of the atm (charge 2.50) and took 3
steps to the right where I was asked by the drive up teller: “Can I help you?” I said, yes, that I would like a roll of
quarters. She said “are you a customer?” I said no (which, perhaps was the wrong
answer considering I had just paid 2.50 for my transaction). She said “I can only give change to our
customers.” I said that I would check
with the manager. Went back into the
bank and received “an exception” from the manager. Do you get this????? I bet you do if you work
for a bank. Maybe you can explain it to
me.
The other day-defining event was that we arrived at a
campground in Whitewater Lake, WI sans reservation (usually okay from
Sun-Thurs), got a space easily enough – most expensive space we have had since
our start -- $45. She said they had a
laundry and my closet was beginning to stink so we booked it. Dropped the trailer and I made my way down to
the “laundromat.” This was the
scrawniest laundromat I have ever seen – 200 sites in this campground (most of
which are seasonals – people who leave their trailers here and come back every
so often) and only 2 washing machines, one of which was “out of order.” The other washing machine had wet things in
it but the cycle was all done. So I sat
down and waited for the owner of the laundry to return. Well 15 minutes later, I decided to take
matters into my own hands by moving the wet stuff to the only free dryer (the
other one also had dry clothes resting – unattended -- in it). I know, this is generally considered “bad
laundry etiquette” but so is making your neighbor wait 15 minutes. All’s well that ends well, I never met the
culprit as our cycles never crossed.
Still shitty cell service here and wifi is only a hotspot
located ½ mile away. TV however
broadcast the national news from Madison, WI.
I see nothing has changed out there you all. Government can’t do anything right but the
economy keeps ticking along. Tell me
again why we have government?
Leftovers tonight and Russ beat me at a game of cribbage,
but this time it was close.
Sorry, no pictures. Too busy enjoying the dry, warm air!!
