Scary Running Partners, Day 32, July 22, 2017
Got up for a run this morning. The air was on the verge of rain but it never
did. I followed the footprints of a big
animal (Russ says at least 100 lbs) who was following a deer. I gotta say, it about freaked me out so, even
though I think I could have gone much further – I did the obligatory 3 and got
home to safety. You know how your mind
works, I was convinced it was a big cat.
Check out the footprint below and see what you think.
On my way back to the trailer I went to the beach and got a couple of pictures. Can you believe that there were kids swimming in this water when it was 62 degrees outside? Yes, I believe it. I did the same thing when I was their age. Gives me hope for the future.

After a shower (yay) and a lite breakfast, we set out to see
the sights of Two Harbors and Duluth, MN.
We had a couple of stops to make so we decided to get the big one out of
the way quick. We went to Jiffy Lube in
Duluth (time for an oil change for the truck) and while it was being worked on,
we walked over and got a Subway sandwich.
After the truck had been serviced, we followed google to a
nearby park: Canal Park. There was no
place here to sit with the dog, have lunch and relax – Canal Park turns out to
be a warehouse area that had been turned into a tourist trap type shopping area
– somewhat like Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco or Cannery Row in Monterey,
CA. Tons of people crossing the street
this way and that. This is not Russ and
my Happy Place.
So we asked google – “what is the nearest park?” and it came
up with another one so we headed there. What a beautiful spot!! Views of beautiful Lake Superior and
wonderful, well cared for gardens. Being
Saturday, there was lots going on, including a wedding. The bride had an awesome day! At
this park, we were able to enjoy a late lunch and get a couple of books
downloaded to our kindle (had enough cell service). Did I mention that this trip has restored my
ability to relax and read a good book?

This Beautiful Cottage was, in fact, the bathhouse
By the way, this park search turned out to be the best way
to see this little city. Duluth has
wonderful buildings and spectacular views.
I know you won’t believe me, but there are hills in Duluth the views from whicht rival a
couple of them in San Francisco. I can
see this place as a destination resort for Minneapilians (residents of
Minneapolis?) or anyone. Another hidden
gem.
On the way home we stopped to drive through Two
Harbors. Russ and Ceilidh had a chance
to Frisbee throw. There was a small
musical group setting up for a concert and we listened from afar. They were country and it was good!
Looking for more mosquito relief, we stopped at the True
Value Hardware store. What a slice of
life. Picked up another couple of
experiments. We will see.
Back home to our soggy campsite. Still as grey as it was when we left. As a matter of fact, as I am writing this,
the rain is pelting our roof. So glad we
have one.
