Giddy Up - more of the Western Museum! - Cody Day 14, July 2, 2017

Today promised to be hot and it was until we got a downpour late this afternoon.  Russ went out to breakfast with a fellow Army friend so exercising Ceilidh was left to me this morning.  We went to the local park -- she knows when we are close already.  She wore out quickly so I headed to the laundromat do get us ready to depart tomorrow.

When Russ returned we revisited the Buffalo Bill Center of the West Museum where we visited the Plains Indian exhibits and the Western Art area.  Saw many Kelsey, Remington and Russell pieces as well as so many others.  Really quite an impressive collection.  I dare you not to go there when you are in Cody, WY.

The Indian Exhibit showed the importance of the buffalo to the Plains Indians.  Buffalo not only provided the native Americans food but also shelter, clothing, and much, much more (even sun goggles).  The native Americans blessed the buffalo and actually thought that they(the buffalos)  allowed themselves to be killed to provide life for the Indians.  The information we got from the museum drove home one of the reasons why the native Americans became dependent on the US government (who were by all means not inculpable) -- buffalo hunters who would kill upwards of 100 buffalo a day per hunter.  These men (don't think there were any women but if there were I will include them) killed buffalo for their hides.  Of course, there had to be a demand for them.  We saw a buffalo coat for sale from the Hudson Bay Company.  The food was wasted and the buffalo herds decimated.

Tonight we go to the Cody Stampede Rodeo!!

It was a great Rodeo!!  Beer, hot dogs, horses, bulls and Cowboys and Cowgirls!!  Somethings you can just count on.  At a rodeo, they aren't afraid to mention that there is a God.  The announcer opened the program with quite an extensive prayer to Jesus Christ.  This is middle America.

Here are some photos I took:
